The first thing you need to do is obtain the Amulet of Mara. This is Skyrim’s way of saying that you are single on a dating site. If you have the amulet, you are the only way to win over a potential partner. It’s easy to locate.

One Amulet of Mara is located in the Lover’s Tent north of Dawnstar. You can also buy one from Marmal at Riften. He is usually found in Riften’s Temple of Mara.

It’s located on the city’s far left side if you look at the map. However, he occasionally pops up in Barb Inn and Bee.

Talk to Marmal about Mara and your interest. He will eventually tell you about the Temple of Mara’s marriage ceremonies. You can also ask him to sell the Amulet of Mara at 200 gold.

The quest will give you a new objective regarding arranging your wedding. You must wait until Marmal is available to assist you, but it is best to remain in the area. 

Although the quest will continue at 6 a.m. in-game, sometimes leaving can cause problems with moving it forward.

Continue with the ceremony and congratulations. Now you are Dragonborn and a partner. If you have one, you will move in to their home. You also get many special benefits.

Your spouse will give you 100 gold each day. It stacks in case they forget. You can have a meal prepared by your spouse that grants buffs. If you are married to a follower, you will get an experience boost that day.

However, you can’t divorce your spouse. You can’t divorce your partner if you want to live a single life or are interested in another candidate. The only way out is murder.
